In Recognition of Community-Based Doula Week
MAAME's 3rd Annual Run, Walk & Stroll for Birth Justice brings our community together to celebrate and invest in the work of community-based doulas and the families they serve across North Carolina.
Every family deserves support before birth, during labor, and long after they come home. Not all perinatal health services are reimbursable in North Carolina, which means too many families fall through the gaps. MAAME's community-based doulas show up anyway, meeting families where they are across 12 counties and providing the kind of trusted, culturally rooted care that changes outcomes.
This event is how our community shows up for them.
Taking place Saturday, April 25th, 2026, from 8 AM to 12 PM at Shepard Middle Magnet School, 2401 Dakota St, Durham, NC 27707, participants are invited to move at their own pace. Choose your distance, 5K Run or 1 Mile Walk or Stroll, and join us for live music, a free health fair, and fitness activities for the whole community. Virtual participation is available April 1–30, 2026.
Proceeds directly support North Carolina's community-based doula workforce, maternal mental wellness programming, and access to trusted, community-rooted care for families who need it most.

However you show up, your presence helps sustain a stronger birth worker workforce and ensures families across our region have access to care that meets them where they are.

Volunteers are the force that makes MAAME’s Run, Walk & Stroll come alive. From hyping up the starting line and guiding runners along the course to managing water stations and supporting family activities, every role fuels the experience. Students can earn verified service hours. Corporate teams can serve together. Individuals can jump in and make an immediate impact. When you volunteer, you’re helping strengthen maternal health programs across North Carolina.

We provide orientation, clear assignments, and on-site leadership so you feel confident and ready.
