What is a Community-Based Doula?

Community-Based Doula: Provides an expanded set of services beyond a birth doula, including connecting individuals with community resources, offering advocacy support for families, and increasing the number of pre- and postpartum visits, not charged separately. CBD’s also receive full spectrum doula training which includes reproductive justice. CBD’s work with community and state health systems but not within them to maintain autonomy within the birthworker community.

  • Experienced in working with historically excluded populations
  • Preferred trainings within the Reproductive Justice and Birth Justice Framework
  • CPR certified or willing to receive training before client assignment
  • Willinging to receive additional training to meet MAAME’s Community-Based Doula standards
