MAAME, Inc.’s 2nd Annual Walk, Run, & Stroll: Taking Action for Black Maternal Health
๐ Saturday, April 5, 2025 | ๐WG Pearson Center | โฐ10 am – 2 pm
Why We Walk, Run, and Stroll
The maternal health crisis in the U.S. is a growing public health emergencyโand Black mothers and babies are at the highest risk. In North Carolina, Black women are nearly three times more likely to die from pregnancy-related causes than white women and Black infants are more than twice as likely to die before their first birthday. These deaths are overwhelmingly preventable.
MAAME, Inc. is committed to changing the statistics, closing the gap, and ensuring that every mother and baby receive the care they deserve. Our 2nd Annual Walk, Run, & Stroll falls on the last day of Community Doula Week, marking the start of Black Maternal Health Month. This event is more than a walkโitโs a movement to raise awareness, advocate for change, and generate critical funds to continue our life-saving work.
We are raising $15,000 to provide essential maternal health services, including doula care, lactation support, and postpartum mental health resources. Your contribution directly helps families receive the care they need during pregnancy, birth, and beyond.

Testimonials: Why This Event Matters
๐ MAAME Maternal Health
“I enjoyed MAAME sending me Mrs. Andora to be my doula. She was very proactive and consistent in helping me understand the importance of womb health to have a safe delivery. My delivery experience was everything I wanted, plus more. Mrs. Andora provided a list of things to consume for a smooth delivery. She was very supportive when I was in labor, walking and doing stretches with me to aid in my pelvic muscles being loose enough for my baby to come through the birthing canal. The best thing she shared with me is that everything is connected to the wombโif your mental health is not at peace, your womb isnโt either. Thanks for everything.”
๐ MAAME Eat Well Program
“EatWell has been such a great benefit to my family and me! It has allowed us to incorporate fresh fruits and vegetables into our meals. Along with some exercise, I am losing postpartum weight and feeling much better! Iโm so thankful for the monthly allowance and the health it is bringing!” โ K. Wells
๐ MAAME Maternal Mental Health
“I am in a better place than when I started the program. The program has given me a lot of context, coping mechanisms, and a mental health toolkit for handling stress and anxiety. I feel like I have grown; it’s been nice having a sense of community with other moms who understand what itโs like to be a BIPOC mom culturally. I feel more confident in my day-to-day life and am ready to face situations that once seemed too big or scary.” โ K. Green
